Historical Archive: Lorsch Torhalle, Gatehouse, Königshalle
Abbey of Saint Nazarius, Lorsch, Germany

constructed soon after 876 or possibly around 820, including interior painting
patterned east and west fronts are sandstone
north and south walls raised and new high-pitched roof added in the 14th century, by 1380-90
bell support late 17th century
renovated 1697, 1724, 1827, 1927-36, 1954 and 1972 (painting), 1976
north stair tower destroyed in 1840 and reconstructed

Basilica fragment: three western bays, early 12th century
building otherwise destroyed 1621
buttresses early 20th century
restored 1956-57
