Crypt and grave of Bishop Bernward of Hildesheim (reg. 993-1022)

Sandstone sarcophagus 1022,
inscription text: Hildesheim city Nr. 11 on DIO.
Upper tomb slab probably 1022, possibly 1150 or 1194,
sandstone, 277.5 x 123 cm (109 x 48.4 inches),
inscription text: Hildesheim city Nr. 12 on DIO.
crypt expanded 1194-97 and c. 1625, vaults destroyed 1662
crypt restored, Bernward grave transformed 1864, 1893
new arches 1939-41
